Cannabis Glossary 2026: 60 Terms Every Consumer Should Know

Cannabis has its own language, and navigating it as a consumer can be confusing. Whether you’re new to cannabis or just want to make sure you understand what you’re buying from Ghost Farms Official, this glossary covers the 60 most important cannabis terms in 2026.

A–C

Bioavailability: The percentage of a consumed substance that actually enters the bloodstream and produces an active effect. Inhaled cannabis has high bioavailability (50–60%); edibles have much lower bioavailability (6–20%).

Budder: A cannabis concentrate with a smooth, creamy texture created by whipping extract during production. Similar to wax but smoother.

Cannabinoid: Any compound that interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system. Cannabis contains over 100 cannabinoids including THCa, THC, CBD, CBG, CBN, and more.

Cannabis sativa: The plant species from which all cannabis and hemp products are derived. Both hemp and marijuana are Cannabis sativa — distinguished only by legal definition based on Delta-9 THC content.

Caryophyllene: The only terpene known to also act as a cannabinoid, activating CB2 receptors. Found abundantly in black pepper and many cannabis strains. Associated with stress relief and anti-inflammatory effects.

CB1 Receptor: Cannabinoid receptor found primarily in the brain and central nervous system. THC’s psychoactive effects come primarily from its interaction with CB1 receptors.

CB2 Receptor: Cannabinoid receptor found throughout the immune system and peripheral tissues. More associated with anti-inflammatory effects than psychoactive ones.

CBD (Cannabidiol): Non-psychoactive cannabinoid with extensive research interest. Does not produce intoxication. Available in hemp products legally nationwide.

CBG (Cannabigerol): The “mother cannabinoid” from which THCa and CBD are biosynthesized. Non-psychoactive; research suggests focus-enhancing and anti-inflammatory properties.

CBN (Cannabinol): A mildly psychoactive cannabinoid formed when THC degrades. Often associated with sedative effects. Higher in older or improperly stored cannabis.

Certificate of Analysis (COA): Third-party lab report certifying a product’s cannabinoid content, terpene profile, and safety testing results. Essential for any cannabis purchase.

Concentrate: Any cannabis product that has been processed to remove plant material, leaving a potent extract. Includes wax, shatter, live resin, rosin, distillate, and diamonds.

Curing: The post-harvest process of slowly drying cannabis in controlled humidity conditions to develop flavor, smoothness, and preserve cannabinoids.

D–H

Decarboxylation (“Decarb”): The chemical process of applying heat to convert THCa into psychoactive Delta-9 THC. Happens automatically when cannabis is smoked or vaporized.

Delta-8 THC: A minor cannabinoid with milder psychoactive effects than Delta-9 THC. Commercially produced through chemical conversion from CBD. Legal in some states, banned in others.

Delta-9 THC: The primary psychoactive compound in cannabis. Federally Schedule I. Produced naturally when THCa is heated.

Diamonds: Pure THCa crystalline formed through a separation process during cannabis extraction. Can reach 99%+ purity. Used in “diamonds and sauce” products.

Disposable Vape: An all-in-one vape device with pre-loaded cannabis oil and a built-in battery, designed for single-use convenience. Ghost Farms’ 7g disposable is the market leader.

Distillate: A highly refined cannabis extract that removes most compounds except a target cannabinoid. High potency but low flavor complexity. Most budget vapes use distillate.

Endocannabinoid System (ECS): The body’s built-in system of receptors, enzymes, and signaling molecules that cannabis compounds interact with. Involved in pain regulation, mood, memory, appetite, and more.

Entourage Effect: The theory that cannabinoids and terpenes work synergistically, producing effects greater than any individual compound alone. Supports preference for full-spectrum over isolate products.

Flower: The dried bud of the cannabis plant — the most traditional and widely consumed cannabis product. Also called “bud” or “nug.”

Full Spectrum: A cannabis product containing the complete range of cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant, as opposed to isolated compounds.

Hemp: Cannabis containing 0.3% or less Delta-9 THC by dry weight at harvest. Federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. The legal framework enabling THCa flower distribution.

HHC (Hexahydrocannabinol): A hydrogenated form of THC with unique psychoactive properties. Legal in more markets than Delta-9 THC.

Hybrid: A cannabis strain with genetics from both indica and sativa lineages, offering balanced effects.

I–L

Indica: Cannabis subspecies traditionally associated with relaxing, sedating, body-focused effects. Modern genetics have blurred traditional indica/sativa distinctions significantly.

Indoor-Grown: Cannabis cultivated in a controlled indoor environment with artificial lighting. Generally produces the highest quality flower with maximum terpene and cannabinoid development.

Kief: The powdery collection of trichomes that fall from cannabis flower during handling. Collected in the bottom chamber of 4-piece grinders. Very potent concentrate.

Linalool: A floral, lavender-scented terpene with calming and anti-anxiety properties. Found in strains like Zkittlez and Amnesia Haze.

Limonene: A citrus-scented terpene associated with mood elevation and stress relief. Dominant in strains like Runtz, Gelato, and Super Lemon Haze.

Live Resin: Cannabis concentrate made from flash-frozen fresh plant material, preserving the full terpene and cannabinoid profile. Ghost Farms’ live resin vapes use this premium extraction method.

Live Rosin: Solventless concentrate produced from fresh-frozen cannabis using only heat and pressure. The cleanest extraction method.

Liquid Diamonds: Premium cannabis extract combining high-purity THCa crystalline with natural terpene sauce. Maximum potency + premium flavor.

M–R

Microdosing: Consuming very small amounts of cannabis — below the threshold of significant psychoactive effect — to access subtle therapeutic benefits.

Myrcene: The most abundant terpene in most cannabis strains. Earthy, musky aroma. Associated with sedating, indica-like effects.

Pinene (Alpha/Beta): Pine-scented terpene associated with mental clarity, alertness, and memory retention.

Pre-Roll: A commercially produced joint — cannabis ground and rolled in paper for convenient, ready-to-smoke consumption. Ghost Farms’ pre-rolls use premium flower.

Rosin: Solventless cannabis concentrate produced using heat and pressure. No chemical solvents involved in extraction.

S–Z

Sativa: Cannabis subspecies traditionally associated with energizing, cerebral, uplifting effects.

Shatter: A brittle, translucent cannabis concentrate with high potency and glass-like consistency.

Terpenes: Aromatic compounds produced by cannabis (and other plants) that contribute to flavor, aroma, and effect profile. Over 200 identified in cannabis.

Terpinolene: Floral, herbal, pine-scented terpene dominant in the most energizing sativa strains like Durban Poison and Jack Herer.

THCa (Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid): The raw, non-psychoactive precursor to Delta-9 THC found in living cannabis plants. Converts to THC when heated. The primary cannabinoid in Ghost Farms’ flower products.

THCp (Tetrahydrocannabiphorol): A naturally occurring cannabinoid claimed to be significantly more potent than THC. Increasingly appearing in specialized cannabis products.

Trichomes: Tiny crystalline structures on cannabis buds that produce and store cannabinoids and terpenes. Heavy trichome coverage (“frosty” buds) is a sign of quality.

Wax: Cannabis concentrate with a soft, opaque, malleable texture.

2018 Farm Bill: The federal legislation that legalized hemp (cannabis with under 0.3% Delta-9 THC) in the United States, enabling the nationwide THCa market.
